Home additions and adus in Snohomish County, WA

Need more room but don't want to move? We design and build home additions, from a bigger primary suite to a second story or a family room off the kitchen. We also build accessory dwelling units (ADUs), like backyard cottages and garage conversions, for a rental, a home office or a place for family. Before you spend money on plans, we'll check your lot's zoning, setbacks, and septic or sewer so you know what's possible.

What we build

  • Primary suite additions
  • Second-story additions
  • Family rooms off the kitchen
  • Attached and backyard ADUs
  • Garage conversions

Start with what your lot allows

Washington has made ADUs easier to permit in recent years, but every lot is different. Before you spend money on plans, we check your zoning, setbacks, septic or sewer, and parking so you know what's possible. Then we handle the drawings the building department needs, pull the permits and schedule the inspections.

Common questions

Can I add an ADU or addition to my home?

In many cases, yes. Washington has made accessory dwelling units, like backyard cottages and garage conversions, easier to permit in recent years. Every lot is different, though, so we'll check your zoning, setbacks, septic or sewer, and parking before you spend money on plans.

Have you built an ADU before?

Yes. Our Lake Stevens ADU is a new-build attached one-bedroom unit with its own kitchen and bath, built over a two-car garage, with a finished workout room and half bath on the ground level.

How long does it take to get a building permit in Snohomish County?

It depends on the project and how busy the permit office is. Simple permits can come through in a few weeks, while additions and new homes can take a few months. We'll factor permit time into your schedule from day one so there are no surprises.

Who pulls the permits, me or the contractor?

We do. Pulling permits, drawing up what the building department needs, and scheduling inspections are all part of our job. Be cautious with any contractor who asks you to pull the permit in your name, because that can leave you holding the responsibility if something fails inspection.
